Do You Think Before You Speak?
This piece really could be the 2nd part to my previous post on Active Listening , which started with the quote:
” Listen a hundred times, ponder a thousand times, speak once!”
So I guess this is about how we reply after we have listened to something that has just been said to us.
A lot of the time, when we speak we are just going through a familiar motion without being fully conscious of all of our words.
We rarely stop to think about what we are saying. Sometimes we are so quick to judge, give an opinion or extol a belief, that our thoughts have rolled off our tongues before we have given much consideration to the damage or benefit they might have.
Entrepreneurs and successful people on the other hand are truely mindful of their words, knowing that if they’re not in control of what they say then there can often be a negative outcome and their words could come back to bite them.
They know that when talking about themselves and others they need to be conscious of their thoughts and the words that follow. Successful people know that in order to be more successful they need to be speaking words that build self esteem & self confidence, relationships and words that can build dreams.
Words that truely encourage, affirm and appreciate. Words of acceptance, possibility & vision.

” Impecability of the word can lead you to personal freedom, to huge success and abundance, it can take away all fear and tranform it into love & joy.”
Don Miguel Ruiz, Author of The Four Aggreements

To speak with impecability to me means to speak as I would like to be spoken to, to maintain my integrity and to be aligned with my vision and my dreams. Personally I’m less religious and more spiritual, I believe in Karma and what you say to others has a ripple effect in the universe.
For me to be more successful in life, I believe I need to be putting out positive energy. Energy I feel will have a good effect on whoever I’m talking to. I mean just about everything you say to people will either have a postive or a negative affect on them, so why not make it positive? ![]()
So as a rule of thumb it’s safe to say (my dad was HUGE on this), first and foremost you need to be speaking the truth and making sure you stay away from negative gossip, both of these things will only rob you of a clear mind!
If you speak your truth without any negativity it will allow you to think more clearly and be more effective with your decision making and actions.
In the past, whenever I have ever stretched the truth or been less complimentory when talking about someone else, I’ve always been left with an uneasy feeling. Don Miguel Ruiz likens this to opening a computor virus in your mind, I agree!
I believe a little bit of meditation is neccessary here, we need to take some time to check our thoughts & feelings before we speak.
To your MEGA Success,

Thanks Martin, I usually think about if I say this, then how is it going to impact the other person? If it’s positive, then I will say it, but if it’s in a negative way… I won’t.
I guess if we have the right mindset in the first place about helping and caring for other people, then pretty much most of what comes out of our mouths will support the other person.
Thanks for sharing Martin,

Thanks for your comment Gavin,
Yes like you, most of us do think before we speak. My only wish is that it catches on!…this world will be a better place when it does.
