Ok, now that you have begun collecting the names & email addresses and perhaps phone numbers of interested prospects, ask yourself this!…who is in control off that list? If your answer is that they are in your companies back office or system data base, you may need to re-assess this strategy.

“Some free advice” - KEEP YOUR LIST IN YOUR OWN AUTORESPONDER!

Let me paint an unfortunate little scenario that happened to me on two separate occasions. Some years ago, I was actively working two programs using my companies site to store my leads with no way of contacting those leads unless I picked up the phone. I subsequently left those opportunities only to leave the lists behind. BIG MISTAKE!!  I had spent considerable time, money and effort to generate these leads, only to see them be harvested, worked or quite possibly sold by my old company.

In September of 2008 I began using  Awebers Autoresponder Service by  importing every lead I  generated into this system. Over the following 5 months I have been making a steady stream of income from those leads by sending them a series of follow-up email messages. I don’t hit them over the head with my opportunity, I simply let them know of things that are working for me and just add my contact info and opportunity URL in the signature line. WOW! I had been hearing how the fortune was in the follow-up and they were right!

Since then, every lead I generate go’s straight into my Aweber autoresponder from any capture page I use. This little task translates into literally thousands of dollars!

One thing you need to be clear on, if you are generating leads and they are in a company back office, THEY ARE YOURS! You should be putting them into your autoresponder and following up with them forever or until they opt out. Let me tell you, if I had all the names and info of every lead I’ve ever generated over the years, I’d already be driving my Range Rover Sports!

One last thing, I don’t mean you should go out and purchase lead lists and import those into your autoresponder. Your account will get shut down. You have no idea how those names were generated or how old they are. Don’t take the risk…keep your list clean!

Right, you have now consolidated your list into one place, so whats next? How do we treat this list?…With T.L.C. :-)   See Sponsoring Blueprints Issue #7

Straight Up!…if your not tracking your advertising efforts, you should be! Please, every serious entrepreneur must do this, starting TODAY! You need to know which ads are actually seen and producing click through’s! This is how you determine  the conversion rate of your capture page by figuring how many clicks to leads generated, and then ultimately your conversion to sales. You need to know if your advertising efforts and dollars are producing sales!

My team members are advised to set up their own Ad Tracking Software , this way they are able to set up multiple campaigns for their different marketing strategies. Remember, diversification is the key to any marketing strategy. Meaning, you want to use combination’s of offline ads in magazines and newspapers and online ezine ads, email marketing, pay per click, Myspace, Article and Youtube Marketing, etc. So here’s a case study of how it works!…

I start by creating a new marketing campaign, I’ll be using this on my Myspace Page. Once I’ve set up this new campaign which I’m calling Space…I’m then given a unique tracking code…for example 2554. I then head on over to Godaddy where I purchased my domain name, I login…then click My Domains. Once I have found the Domain I want to work with, I open it up by clicking on that name, yours could be something like…(www.HomeMadeMillions.com).

This will open a new window where you will find the domain name of your companies website or Lead Capture Page you used to forwarded your new name to,…example; (http://www.worldsbestjuice.com/yourname).

Now what I want to do is create a Subdomain to use to track any Myspace marketing I will be doing. On that same page in Godaddy, if you scroll down the page you will see on the left a title called Sub-domains, here you are able to create up to 90 subdomain links for free.

Simply click on the add tab, this will open up a new box called forward and mask domains. The first thing we need to do is enter in a Subdomain, in this case I’m calling mine…space. Directly below is the Forward to box, in here is where you will enter the new campaign Link…the website address you were given when you created your new campaign.

Example:…http://www.worldsbestjuice.com/yourname/2554

Click on the 302 Moved Temporarily Button…then click the Masking Tab…tick the enable Masking box.

Now, whenever we put our website address onto our Myspace page all you have to do is enter in the new tracking address which will now look like this: http://space.worldsbestjuice.com…every time someone clicks this new link they are not only  taken to your website or lead capture page, now every single hit will be recorded in your back office which enables you to precisely track your marketing efforts.

As a side note…Pay per click, like Google adwords, is already pretty well tracked by Google, but you can still use a tracking url to compare the clicks for your ads along with your other tracking urls. More importantly, your .info extension is more clickable than a long affiliate url. As I said before, not many people will click on a url that reads http://goto.worldsbestjuice.com/lcp/lcp17/lcp17.php… its just downright ugly!…a .info url is inviting, people are searching for information, and this will speak to them!

If you have anything further to ad regarding the use of a domain name that I might have missed or any creative uses that you have come up with, please feel free to share them or leave questions in the comment section below.

Now that you have created multiple domain extensions, lets talk about how you can use each one.

When placing any form of offline advertising, you must always use a .com extension.

Just get into this habit, people will remember your website as a .com. So if you place your ad with something like www.onlineprosperity.net and they go to find you online, they will most likely type in www.onlineprosperity.com .  If that is you, sweet!, but if its not you you have lost a lead and potentially a lot of money.

With Online advertising it’s not as important, when you are online and someone is simply clicking on a link, it really doesn’t matter which extension you use, and that is fact!

Utilizing your Different Extensions Online

There are two main ways to use your different extensions online. One is to create continuity, and the other is in ad tracking.

Creating Continuity Between Your Ad and Your Follow up by using Different Extensions of the Same Domain Name.

Here is an example of how to use different extensions of the same domain to create continuity.

We have 1 domain name, 3 extensions.
www.OnlineProsperity.com
www.OnlineProsperity.info
www.OnlineProsperity.biz

The first domain, www.OnlineProsperity.com would be placed in any offline promotions for your business. Even a sign on the side of the road with that domain name would be hard to forget! That domain name points at a LANDING PAGE, sometimes called a Lead Capture Page. Your landing page should be provided to you by your company, or by your team. You will use the domain forwarding feature at www.godaddy.com to point the domain to the long affiliate url you were given.

Your landing page collects the name, email and perhaps the phone number of the person who wants to access the information about how to earn $$$. After the form is filled, they are immediately taken to the actual opportunity site. At the same time, they are added to an autoresponder email sequence that will followup with them forever, or until they opt out. This is where the other 2 domain names are used.

Logically, the www.OnlineProsperity.info domain is forwarded to the information pages about the opportunity. At godaddy, you will put the exact extension of the long affiliate url. In the followup series messages that are pointing back to the site for them to gather more INFO, I will use the .info extension. I use the .info url because the long affiliate url is UGLY and not CLICKABLE. Even in the followup series, you want a good looking domain name.

Think about it. www.OnlineProsperity.com, or…

…http://goto.worldsbestmlm.com/lp1/lp1/php…Which would you click?

Remember what I said previously about people cutting off your affiliate ID’s and just typing in www.worldsbestmlm.com

If your honest  you’d  probably do it yourself, and so would others!

Similarly, the www.OnlineProsperity.biz extension is used in the call to action section of the followup email. The sentence that says “Join Now!” will use the .biz extension and point directly to the sign up page. The .biz says it all, they are ready to go, and the link takes them directly to the page they need to see. If they are not ‘ready to go’ and they click on it, then they have SEEN the page they will use when they are ready. They know how to navigate back to it if they go back into the info pages of the site. This actually will help your conversion rates significantly!

I am aware that not all ‘corporate’ sites are this easy to dissect and point your different extensions to. Some sites individual pages lose the links to you when you navigate away from the main page. In that case, you can use your different extensions for ad tracking.

So, how do you choose a name that can make or break a business???

First things 1st, your domain name should say something about the product/company or industry you are in. You don’t want a domain name looking like www.ilikejets.com if your home base travel business!  Take some time to meditate on your potential domain names. Write them down in several different combination’s. Get creative! Keep the name short by using numbers and abbreviations like biz. Use correct spellings though, or you’ll lose people typing it in!

Think about how you’d feel if you saw this domain name. Do you get a positive feeling? Does it resonate with you and make you WANT to click it?…Then it’s a keeper.

Now, go to Godaddy.com and do a domain search for your first choice. If its available, then thank your lucky stars and grab it! While you are at it, grab the .com,.net,.biz and .info versions too. You’ll use all of them in your promotions in good time.
If your first choice was’nt available, try adding hyphens between the words. Hyphens help, they do not hurt!. For example, if your first choice was www.travelforless.com and it is not available, then try www.travel-for-less.com . You may be pleasantly surprised to find that even your most sought after domain names can often be found by adding hyphens. The hyphens make your domain name more readable, and therefore, more “clickable” ;-) . Again, grab the .com,.net,.biz and .info versions as well.
